This page applies to Harlequin v14.0r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.
The four object types are:
Picture
Images, except of size 1xN or Nx1 or 1-bit deep. See the note on setmiscobjectmappings below.
Text
Glyphs defined by a font description.
Shading
Shaded fills and shading patterns. (For historical reasons, Vignette is accepted as a synonym of this.)
By default, images of size 1xN or Nx1 are also treated as Shading unless they're of 1-bit depth. See the note on setmiscobjectmappings below.
Other
All vector graphics (linework): fills, strokes, and image masks. In some contexts, Linework is accepted as a synomym of this.
By default, images of 1-bit depth are also treated as Other. See the note on setmiscobjectmappings below.
In some contexts, a Default object type may be used to designate the object types not otherwise specified.
The object type of some images can be controlled using setmiscobjectmappings (see The setmiscobjectmappings operator). They include images of size 1xN or Nx1 and 1-bit deep images, which are commonly treated in the graphic arts as though they are Shading and Other objects, respectively.
The type of patterned objects is immaterial; they are just a mask for the actual objects in the pattern whose type will control their color management. For example, a pattern cell containing an image and a fill would have the image treated as Picture and the fill as Other.
