Tracking Jobs in SPC for a MIS

Introduction

In modern digital print manufacturing environments, production workflows increasingly require seamless integration between business systems, workflow automation, digital front ends (DFE), and industrial monitoring platforms. As print operations evolve toward Industry 4.0 and smart factory architectures, the ability to reliably track production jobs across systems becomes essential for operational efficiency, reporting, analytics, and automation.

Hybrid Software Group SmartDFE and Smart Print Controller provide a standardized mechanism to associate business-level job metadata with production jobs and expose this information through OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture). This enables external systems such as MIS, ERP, MES, reporting platforms, and factory automation systems to monitor production activity in real time and maintain end-to-end traceability throughout the production lifecycle.

This document describes how to:

  • Submit jobs through SmartDFE Hot Folders using Complete Files

  • Associate production metadata using:

    • JobTag

    • MIS.JobID

    • MIS.JobPartID

  • Understand the purpose and recommended usage of each identifier

  • Retrieve job metadata through the Smart Print Controller OPC UA interface

  • Access active job information for real-time production monitoring

  • Implement best practices for integration and job traceability

The combination of SmartDFE metadata handling and OPC UA connectivity provides a scalable and vendor-neutral integration framework for connecting print production environments with enterprise systems and industrial automation platforms.
