Total Ink Limit (TIL) is the maximum combined percentage of ink, typically CMYK, that a printer applies to a given area of the substrate. It helps prevent over-inking problems such as drying issues, ink bleed, smudging, or media damage. Different substrates absorb ink differently, so coated papers may support higher TIL values while uncoated or synthetic materials may require lower limits. Setting an appropriate TIL helps maintain print quality, press reliability, and consistent output.
