Spot Variations Chart

The Ring Arounds Color Editing Tool provides a systematic approach for printing technicians to edit spot colors efficiently. By following these steps, you can achieve accurate color adjustments and enhance the quality of your printed materials.

Terminology
Spot Color: The original color to be edited.
Ring Arounds: The process of printing reference patches with variations in cyan and magenta to achieve the desired ink mix.

Accessing Ring Arounds Tool
Open a job with spots in Job Editor. Spot Variations Chart is available via  Edit menu or by right clicking any desired spot color.

Select on a desired Spot and click on Spot Variations Chart

Click on Spot Variations Chart:

Tick the checkbox for spot colors you want to create Spot Variations Chart. Select patch size. Then, select any 3 colorants, and step, up and down for each colorant. A preview of the first page will be displayed, showing variations in color according to your selected parameters. Click on Print and the PDF will be sent to the SPC's waiting queue.

  • Patch size: large, medium or small;

  • Step: a float number between 0.1% and 10.0% representing the variation for each step;

  • Up: an integer number between 0 and 2 representing the total steps over the current value;

  • Down: an integer number between 0 and 2 presenting the total steps below the current value;

Click Close to close the window.

Check the PDF in SPC's waiting queue.

Note, the maximum number of patches is limited by 256. If this limit is breached, no preview is shown. Print button is disabled and an error message is displayed:

If this happens, users can adjust the settings to reduce the number of patches to remove the error.
