Overview
The RIP Config Templates tab manages the Smart Print Controller configuration template files included in the device configuration.
These template files define how the RIP Server is configured when the device configuration is applied. Smart Device Configurator lets you review and edit these files without leaving the application.
The tab is split into two areas:
-
The file tree on the left, which lists the template files included in the current configuration.
-
The editor on the right, which shows the selected template file.
Template File Tree
The file tree shows the configuration template files included in the current device configuration.
Select a file to view and edit its contents.
Folder and Refresh Buttons
The buttons below the file tree provide access to the template folders and update tools.
Open Standard Templates
Opens the folder containing the standard configuration templates supplied with this release of Smart Device Configurator.
Use this when you want to inspect the templates supplied with the application.
Open Device Templates
Opens the folder containing the template files included in the current device configuration.
Use this if you need to add, remove, or replace template files manually.
After making changes in the folder, click Refresh to update the file tree.
Refresh
Reloads the template file tree.
Use this after adding, removing, or changing files in the device template folder.
Auto-upgrade
Compares the template files in the current device configuration with the standard templates supplied with Smart Device Configurator.
If no upgrade is required, Smart Device Configurator displays a message stating that all configuration templates are up to date.
If changes are available, an upgrade dialog is shown. The dialog lists the affected files and shows the change that will be applied.
The icons indicate the type of change:
-
Name Changed: the template file will be renamed to match the current standard template naming.
-
Content Changed: the template file content will be replaced with the current standard template content.
Auto-upgrade may overwrite changes made to template files. Back up the original .sdc file before applying the upgrade.
Settings Tab
The Settings tab provides simplified controls for common editable values in the selected template file.
The Settings tab is available only when Smart Device Configurator can identify supported settings in the selected template.
RipCount
Use RipCount to set the number of RIP instances configured by the selected template.
Valid values are 1 to 16.
When this value is changed, Smart Device Configurator updates the selected template file.
Plugin Threads
Some templates also allow plugin thread counts to be edited from the Settings tab.
When available, each editable plugin is shown with its own thread count control.
Valid thread count values are 1 to 16.
Advanced Tab
The Advanced tab shows the raw template file content in a text editor.
Use this tab when you need to inspect or manually edit settings that are not exposed on the Settings tab.
The editor includes syntax highlighting and line numbers.
Click Save Changes to write changes back to the selected template file.
Smart Device Configurator shows whether the current editor content is saved or not saved.
If you switch files or move back to the Settings tab while there are unsaved changes, Smart Device Configurator prompts you to save or discard those changes.
Compare Against Default
The Compare against default button compares the selected template file with the standard template supplied with Smart Device Configurator.
The button is available when a matching standard template exists.
The badge on the button shows the number of differences found.
Use this comparison to review how the current template differs from the default version before editing or upgrading it.
