When Smart Device Configurator is opened for the first time, it creates a default device configuration.
This example shows how to change the default configuration into a CMYK, 600 x 600 dpi, 2 drop, simplex device.
For this example, only the first three tabs are required:

General Tab
Use the General tab to define the basic device information, such as the device name, manufacturer, model, and device type.
Enter a suitable value in Device Name.
The device name is used as the basis for the filename when the Smart Device Configuration is saved.
Set Color Support to Color.
This automatically configures the device with the standard CMYK print bars:

Black
-
Cyan
-
Magenta
-
Yellow
Each print bar is assigned a unique plane number automatically.
Leave Duplex Option set to Simplex for this example.
All other values can be left as their default settings unless your device requires different values.
Print Bar Groups
A print bar group is a collection of print bars that share the same settings.
In this example, only one print bar group is required because all CMYK print bars use the same resolution, bits per pixel, and drop size settings.
Set the resolution
In Resolutions, click + and add a 600 x 600 dpi entry.
Select the original 100 x 100 dpi entry and click - to remove it.
Set the bits per pixel
In Supported Bits Per Pixel, select 2.
Set the maximum supported drop size
In Maximum Supported Drop Size, set the value to 2.
Smart Device Configurator updates the supported drop sizes for the selected print bar group.
For a simplex device, the print bar group should remain assigned to side A.
Print Bars
Use the Print Bars tab to review the print bars assigned to the device.
Because Color Support was set to Color, the CMYK print bars are already created. The plane numbers are also assigned automatically:

Black: plane number 1

Cyan: plane number 2

Magenta: plane number 3
-
Yellow: plane number 4
No additional print bars need to be added for this example.
Check that each print bar is assigned to the correct print bar group. For this simple device, all four print bars should use the same print bar group.
When there are no warning messages at the bottom of the screen, the Smart Device Configuration can be saved.
