Glossary (Label Studio)

This is a collection of Label Studio and print workflow terms used throughout the user guide. Use it as a quick reference when reviewing setup, imposition, preview, and processing options.

Add Whites

An optional Label Studio step that adds a white separation to the output when a suitable white name is available.

Alt Preview

A simplified preview mode that shows page positions using outlines and source page numbers rather than the full rendered page.

Crop Box

The PDF page box that usually represents the intended visible page area. Label Studio uses the crop box as the default imposition reference box.

Duplex

Printing on both sides of the substrate. Label Studio settings affect the pages that are prepared for output; duplex behavior is ultimately controlled by the wider print workflow and device configuration.

Frame

The production area created by Label Studio. The source label is placed, repeated, or sequenced inside the frame.

Frame Preview

The preview area on the right side of Label Studio. It shows the first output frame and updates as settings change.

Imposition

The process of placing one or more source pages into a production frame. In Label Studio this includes across/down counts, page order, reference box, rotation, mirroring, gaps, and copy behavior.

Information Panel

An optional generated page that can be sent with the processed job to provide production information.

Lead-In

Pages inserted before the main job content by the LiLo option.

Lead-Out

Pages inserted after the main job content by the LiLo option.

LiLo

Lead-in / lead-out processing. LiLo adds pages before or after the main job content for setup, identification, or production handling.

N-Up

A layout where multiple copies or source pages are placed in one output frame. In Label Studio, the Across and Down settings define the n-up grid.

OPC

Open Platform Communications. Label Studio uses an OPC connection to SPC for live information such as media and printer profile settings.

Pre-Press

The SPC area used to prepare jobs before they are returned to the Waiting Queue for printing.

Printer Marks

Marks added around the imposed content for production use. Label Studio supports corner marks and side marks such as eye marks and color bars.

Reference Box

The PDF page box used as the placement reference for imposition. Label Studio supports Media, Crop, Trim, and Bleed.

Roll Mode

A mode for roll-fed workflows. In Label Studio, roll mode restricts VDP paths to vertical paths.

Side Mark

A printer mark placed along the side of the output. Side mark types include eye mark, process color bar, and spot color bar.

Static Imposition

An imposition mode where a selected source page or label layout is repeated across the frame.

Studio Engine

The processing component that applies Label Studio settings and creates the output job.

Studio File

A .studio file containing saved Label Studio settings.

Target Media

The media definition selected for the output job. Target media can affect frame sizing and the settings sent back to SPC.

VDP

Variable Data Printing. In Label Studio, VDP imposition places source pages in sequence through the frame.

VDP Path

The path used to fill an imposed frame with source pages in VDP mode, such as top-left horizontal or top-left vertical.

Waiting Queue

The SPC queue where jobs wait before they are printed or moved into another preparation workflow.
